New York City: Support Indie Cinema! Tonight at The reRun Movie Theater, our last two screenings of CONVENTO will be at 7pm and 10pm. I’ll be there with a very special guest. The film will be shown on a new blu-ray followed by never-seen-before short films I made with the artist.
Convento is an unusual experimental film that conjures the free-floating aura of a dream, only without the stylized, hyper-symbolic imagery that we generally associate with films attempting to convey dream states. The director Jarred Alterman has, in fact, taken the opposite approach: His compositions are gorgeous and surreal in their plainness and rational tactility. Convento captures the casually reassuring pleasure, as well as the potentially disconcerting oddness, of seeing something commonplace anew.
I sit down with Mike Tully of Hammer to Nail to discuss NY Times Reviews, mid-length docs and tough choices- over pancakes. sorry about the f- bombs! Hammer to Nail
The SXSW Film Festival and Factory 25 present CONVENTO, the phantasmagoric fave of SXSW, Edinburgh, and Rooftop Films that IFC News called “an unorthodox doc about an unorthodox family of artists.” Presented in a 68-minute extended cut featuring supplemental vignettes, Jarred Alterman’s directorial debut makes its NYC theatrical premiere with a week-long run, March 9 - 15.

CONVENTO JOINS FACTORY 25 FOR THEATRICAL RELEASE MARCH 2012
What’s the deal with Factory 25
FACTORY 25:
High and low concept films and music docs have a home at FACTORY 25, the new Brooklyn-based independent film + music label. Beginning in September 2009, FACTORY 25 has been releasing films, theatrically, digitally, and on DVD, and wcurates provocative limited edition DVD/Vinyl combination packages. Specializing in indie niche projects, FACTORY 25 is committed to delivering films and music in perfect analog or digital quality on DVD and vinyl in aesthetically interesting packaging.
The origins of the name Factory 25 came from the actual factory number in Virginia where the Honus Wagner T206 tobacco card was printed. The Wagner T206 is one of the most fetishized and obsessed over pieces of ephemera of the 20th century. Twenty five is also the Factory Records catalog number of the album Closer by Joy Division considered by many as being one of the best records of all time.
